Praise for the
Milkweed Triptych
"A major talent... I can't wait to see more."
—George R. R. Martin
"Mad English warlocks battling twisted Nazi psychics? Yes please, thank you. Tregillis's debut has a white-knuckle plot, beautiful descriptions, and complex characters-- an unstoppable Vickers of a novel."
Cory Doctorow on Bitter Seeds
"Ian Tregillis triumphantly concludes his astonishing, brilliant, pulse-pounding debut trilogy, The Milkweed Triptych."
Cory Doctorow on Necessary Evil
"Tregillis' conclusion of the Milkweed Triptych is the pièce de résistance of the series. Necessary Evil is a perfect marriage of science fiction, fantasy and alternate history."
RT Book Reviews (4.5 stars, Top Pick) on Necessary Evil
"Darkly fascinating…A thoroughly fascinating conclusion to an imaginative tour de force."
Kirkus on Necessary Evil
"A cross between the devious, character-driven spy fiction of early John le Carré and the mad science fantasy of the X-Men... Despite the jaw-dropping backdrop and oblique plotting, the narrative is driven by character and personal circumstance...
Grim indeed, yet eloquent and utterly compelling."
—Kirkus on The Coldest War
"The characters come alive via [Tregillis's] imaginative dialogue and his storyline will keep readers spellbound and on the edge of their seats with an intense sci-fi/alternate history thriller plot."
RT Book Reviews (4.5 stars, Top Pick) on The Coldest War
"Well-drawn characters and a feel for time and place make this an excellent journey into an alternate Britain."
—Library Journal on Bitter Seeds
"Engrossing... Tregillis ably mixes cold war paranoia with his mythology."

Now Shipping: Best SF & Fantasy of the Year, Volume 5
Friday, February 4 2011, 05:59 PM

Well, this is nice.  Not quite nice enough to make up for the broken water pipe in my kitchen and the daylong (fruitless) wait for plumbers to arrive.  But I'll take what I can get.

Today's mail contained a copy of the brand-new The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year Volume 5, which contains my story, Still Life (A Sexagesimal Fairy Tale).

Hooray!

I suppose it's a little silly to be so jazzed about something so minor, but I can't help but be thrilled by this.  Kind of exciting to share a table of contents with Gaiman, Watts, Doctorow, Swirsky, McHugh, McDonald, and many other amazingly amazing writers.

And because I'm still waiting for the plumbers to arrive (and optimistically ignoring the fact that it's 5:30 on a Friday afternoon) here's a photo of the book sitting on my desk:

Best SF & Fantasy of the Year, v5

Sometimes it's the little things.

Especially when your kitchen is full of sand.

No, it's not silly to be jazzed up about being in a YB anthology it's f%*$#@! great. Congrats and kudos. Now go stand on a hill and shout to the heavans that you're a damn good writer.
Sorry about the pipes. Events like that do bring us back down to Eath, don't they?

Thanks, dude, very much.

Yeah, the pipe thing sucks. But at least it keeps things in perspective.

I hope things in St. Louis are much better than they are in my kitchen right now.
